Ways to SAVE Money While Driving
Presented by the Bear
Trap Guide
- Don't be a
"lead foot" on the accelerator while starting from a stopped position.
Drive as if you have a glass of water sitting on the dash and you do not
want to spill it while accelerating
- Start slowing
down earlier when approaching a red light. Take you foot off the
accelerator and start coasting 100 feet earlier than you usually do when
approaching an intersection with a red light.
- Make sure your
tires are fully inflated to get the best gas mileage from your car.
- If you have a
newer car, purchase the lower octane rating gas. Modern cars with
electronic ignition compensate for the different octane ratings and the
lower prices gas will save money.
- Keep you
vehicle as light as possible. Don't store extra junk in the trunk
or back seat as the extra weight affects your gas mileage
- Keep your car in
good running condition. Regular service will increase the life of
your vehicle and increase gas mileage.
- When driving,
maintain a constant speed when possible, use your cruise control.
- Following
another vehicle at a safe distance will improve your gas mileage, but
keep one vehicle length distance for every 10 MPH of speed you are
driving. You do not need to tailgate to save money while following
another vehicle.
